This November, Taiwan will unveil green energy requirements and incentives for the country’s largest users of electricity. Ahead of the government scheme, the Taiwan Renewable Energy Alliance and other NGOs released a sustainability report on 15 major power users.
TSMC was on the list, and it was the top performer in green energy planning. The chipmaker has its own measures in place for limiting power use. It’s also a major purchaser of carbon credits, and it has long-term targets for corporate sustainability. Meanwhile, three companies supplied no information at all on their green initiatives. Other firms were more transparent but showed lots of room for improvement, with renewable sources accounting for less than 0.05% of total power use.
